"It Would Be Suicidal" To Pick Alan As Nana's Running Mate
21 October 2014
Mustapha Hamid, the Spokesperson of the newly elected flagbearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has disclosed that appointing Alan Keyermaten as a running mate to Nana Akufo-Addo would be a political suicide.
In his view, “it would never happen” that Nana Akufo-Addo who won the Presidential Candidate race with a landslide victory would appoint Alan Kyerematen, who was tipped to pose stiff competition but polled only 4.75% of the total votes cast, his running mate for the 2016 Presidential elections because the forces at work are against it.
“…the dynamics would not allow us choose Alan as running mate. If we pick Alan, who is an Ashanti to partner Akufo-Addo, who is also an Akim, it would be political suicide to do that… .”
“..for a party that has always been tagged as an Akan party, we will not do that,” Mr. Hamid said on OKAY FM’s Ade Akye Abia programme.
He made these comments during a telephone interview to discuss the work that went into the emphatic win by Nana Akufo-Addo and the hullabaloo surrounding who would become his running mate going into the next general elections.
Nana Akufo-Addo secured 117, 413 votes representing 94.35% as against 1,128 votes signifying 0.91% by Francis Addai Nimoh and 5,908 making 4.75% of the total votes cast by Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen.
Some Ghanaians are of the view that Alan Kerematen should be chosen as running mate to Nana Akufo-Addo, the Presidential candidate of the NPP because he came second in the primaries.
