I Feel Humbled: Naa Okailey Says After Miss World Feat

One cannot begrudge her for being the most excited person in Ghana, having been crowned the third most beautiful woman in the world. Indeed, Naa Okailey Shooter, Miss Ghana 2012 says words cannot describe her excitement knowing how happy she has made her nation and Africa as a whole.

“I am so excited. Making it to the top three is really a good feeling and I feel honoured and humbled and proud to be Ghanaian,” an elated Naa Okailey told Showbiz last Tuesday.

Naa, who arrived back home last Monday to a rousing welcome from the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Mrs Elizabeth Ofosu-Agyare and officials from her Ministry, the media, family, friends from the University of Ghana Medical School and fans, said it felt good to know that everyone shared in her joy.

On what her expectations were before setting off for the world event, Naa said she promised herself that she was going to do her best.

“I was surprised when my name was mentioned as part of the top five and subsequently the second runner-up though I must say I had carried myself well throughout the pageant.”

“When I heard my name, I was just thinking about how excited Ghanaians would be, and knowing that I had represented them well and going to make them proud was the icing on the cake,” she said.

Naa was in Indonesia for a little over three weeks and says it was a beautiful experience.

“It was very exciting hearing fellow contestants speak different languages some of which I couldn’t make any head or tail of. It was great fun having everyone come together to share ideas.

“We went to a lot of tourist sites in Bali. It is amazing how seriously tourism is taken in Indonesia. Even in their ships, one would see dancers or at least something for one to have a feel of their culture. Honestly, they are a very hospitable people,” she stressed.

Naa’s current title as the second runner-up and coming from Africa, automatically makes her Miss World Africa. It therefore becomes her responsibility to bring all the African beauties together to undertake a specific project.

“We did our individual projects so I have to bring them together for us to decide what we can collectively do to benefit the continent,” she said.

22-year-old Naa, a Level 400 medical student of the University of Ghana Medical School, says being Miss Ghana 2012 did not affect her studies much and she is still focused to go through with her studies.

She expressed her gratitude to her family, sponsors and everyone who has supported her so far. She was exceptionally grateful to her clothes designers, Details by Neyomi and Aya Morrison who made beautiful stuff for her.
