Ex-Prez Kufuor Must Attend Mahama's Inauguration - Kweku Baako
03 Jan 2013
Kwaku Baako Jr. says former President J.A. Kufuor, must be at the inauguration ceremony of President John Mahama on Monday despite a decision by the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to boycott the event.
The New Crusading Guide Editor-in-Chief says Mr. Kufuor must show statesmanship and be part of the event. The Former President is the only NPP member exempted from the boycott.
Kwaku Baako Jr. told Metro TV on Thursday morning that the exemption of the former President from the boycott could not be more appropriate.
“If I were the party, I would have granted him an exemption as a former president and there would be no problem that. The former presidents are a special breed of political animals,” he said.
Mr. Kweku Baako Jr. said Ghana’s former presidents transcend the realm of partisanship and play various roles across the world and therefore must not be pigeon-holed into the same class of politicians in the country.
According to Mr. Kweku Baako Jr, Mr. Kufuor’s presence at the inauguration ceremony “would not in any way undermine the legal challenge in court especially when it is done publicly with an explanation… because I expect a certain relationship or rapport to continue between the sitting president and the former presidents.”
He said even though the times are challenging, it is important for people to be measured in the stance taken on such cases.
