12 November 2012

Many people, suspected to be floating voters, who took part in a mini rally organized by the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) at Tafo in Kumasi last Saturday abandoned the event to follow Samira Bawumia, wife of Dr Bawumia, who toured the area to campaign.

Immediately Samira Bawumia’s convoy reached Tafo around 4:30 pm, all the people that were not clad in NDC paraphernalia abandoned the event, which was being organized close to the main Kumasi/Mampong road.

Deafening shouts greeted Samira Bawumia and at a point some NDC supporters made efforts to catch a glimpse of the lady. After several minutes, people from all walks of life converge on the busy Kumasi/Mampong and shouted “NPP papa nono,” to wit “the NPP is the best.”

The enthusiastic crowd, including the elderly and children, were heard chanting “free SHS, free SHS, free SHS,” as they raced after Samira’s car, which was moving at a snail pace.

The charged crowd, including some Zongo women defied the rains to usher Samira to their area. In fact, all activities at Tafo came to a halt, as food vendors and taxi drivers joined the campaign.

The crowd followed Samira to the Tafo Zongo Chief’s house where she urged the electorate to vote for the NPP to help move the country forward.

She noted that the NDC had failed to develop the country after four years, stressing that the time has come for the electorate to give NPP the chance to help the country.

Samira stressed that the free SHS programme of the NPP was feasible, saying NDC’s claim that free SHS could be possible in 30 years’ time was a hoax. She noted that NPP has the interest of the citizenry at heart, noting that Nana Akufo-Addo’s administration would implement programmes and policies that would benefit all Ghanaians.
