New Juaben Celebrates Akwantukese Festival
10 November 2012
The people of New Juaben traditional area have celebrated the Akwantukese festival amidst a display of their rich culture.
The festival was characterized by a procession by the ‘Nananom’ led by the Omanhene of the area, Daasebre (Emeritus) Oti Boateng, from the palace through some principal streets of Koforidua to the durbar grounds at Jackson Park.
The festival, which was climaxed with celebrations amid pump and pageantry at the durbar grounds, marked the 20th anniversary of the enstoolment of the Omanhene, Daasebre Oti Boateng.
Addressing the people of the traditional area, Daasebre Oti Boateng thanked the people of New Juaben for giving him the opportunity to serve them for the past 20 years.
He said the Akwantukese festival was a clarion call to New Juaben to forge ahead in unity to consolidate the welfare of the people.
He said in spite of the semblance of disunity, “we are united as a people and we are determined to go forward in our development path in unity.”
Daasebre Oti Boateng said since the last Akwantukese festival was held a couple of years ago, the traditional area had recorded many development successes.
He noted that the launch of his book, “Development in Unity-Compendium of Works of Daasebre Oti Boateng” as part of the festival celebrations in Accra, was to honour the chiefs and the people of the traditional area for joining him in his effort to bring rapid socio-economic development to New Juaben.
He also called on the people of the traditional area to ensure they create a peaceful and smooth atmosphere during the general election scheduled to take place on December 7, 2012.
“It is incumbent on all people in New Juaben to ensure a peaceful and smooth environment within the next few days especially during the elections and the period after,” he said.
Various awards of excellence and certificates of merits were also given to deserving citizens for their efforts towards the development of the traditional area.
