Gbevlo Lartey must be sacked -Nyaho-Tamakloe
03 September 2012
Outspoken former Ambassador to Serbia and Montenegro, Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe is calling for the immediate dismissal of the National Security Coordinator Col. (Rtd.) Gbevlo Lartey.
Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe said the security capo lacks the professional competence and experience to handle the country’s security.
He was commenting on Gbevlo Lartey’s defense of the embattled boss of the Narcotic Control Board (NACOB) Akrasi Sarpong who has been heavily criticized following the seizure of the £4.3 million worth of cannabis at Heathrow Airport in London.
The NACOB boss has accepted responsibility for the breaches at his outfit and is contemplating resigning his position.
But in an interview on Joy News, the National Security Coordinator stated emphatically that Akrasi Sarpong will not resign over the few security breaches.
Gbevlo Lartey argued that the NACOB boss has done more than enough in fighting the drug menace in the country therefore should be allowed to stay at post.
But on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Tuesday, Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe took a swipe at the security coordinator and questioned his professional competence in handling sensitive security matters of the state.
He indicated that the conduct of Gbevlo Lartey has compromised his position and commitment to fighting the drug menace in the country.
The outspoken member of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) said he will be very happy if Akrasi Sarpong defy all odds and resign honourably to save himself from further embarrassments.
“I will be the happiest person on earth if he [Akrasi] leaves that position because the greatest problem facing this country is the inability of any leader to resign on principle” he said.
The former Ambassador to Serbia and Montenegro noted that the continuous stay in office of the NACOB boss after this massive blunder will send a bad signal to the international community.
Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe underscored the need for the drug issues to be depoliticized and tackled in a holistic manner to save Ghana’s reputation.
