BNI, police probe Lands Commission fire
An investigative panel made up of personnel from the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI), the military, police, the fire service and the lands commission, has been set up to investigate the fire outbreak that engulfed the records department of the Lands Commission. The body has been tasked to establish the cause of the fire that occurred on Thursday dawn.
Meanwhile, the Ga-Dangme youth are pointing fingers at officials of the Lands Commission following a fire outbreak that devastated vital documents at the records department of the commission on Thursday morning.
According to the youth, officials allegedly masterminded the inferno to get rid of land related documents to delay the release of Ga-Dangme lands to its rightful owners.
The vice president of the Ga-Dangme Youth Association, Nii Marma Marquaye, told Citi News there is more to this morning’s fire than what meets the eye.
However, officials at the Commission have given the assurance that all is not lost yet since they have a solid backup to replace the destroyed files.
The Executive Director of the Lands Commission, Dr Odame Larbi, told Accra-based Joy FM the bulk of the records at the Commission is safe notwithstanding the extensive damage caused by a fire outbreak Thursday dawn.
Documents on state lands, plans records, and completed and filed documents are all intact, he assured.
He said: “The bulk of the land record is intact and everybody who has got a completed document with the Commission is safe, none of those documents got burnt.”
