Two Supreme Court judges sworn in
Two Justices of the Supreme Court have been sworn into office by President John Dramani Mahama.
They are Mr Justice Anthony Benin and Mr Justice Joseph Bawa Akamba. They took the oaths of allegiance and secrecy as well as the judicial oath.
Performing the ceremony, President Mahama urged the justices to use their experience to enhance the independence and viability of the Judiciary.
He said their experience should also have a bearing on rule of law and the constitutional mandate of the Judiciary.
For her part, the Chief Justice, Mrs Justice Georgina Theodora Wood, said that the experience of the two justices at the bench should be used to uphold the tenets of the Judiciary in the country.
She was hopeful that their juniors would tap their wealth of knowledge.
Responding, Justice Benin congratulated the President on his elevation to the high office of the land and assured of expediting justice in a fair and firm manner that would be acceptable to all parties.
The swearing-in of the two judges brings to 14 the number of justices of the Supreme Court.
