Burial of Presidents: Send Them Home- CPP Flag-bearer
03 August 2012
The presidential candidate of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) Dr. Abu Sakara Forster has proposed the establishment of Presidential Memorial Centres in the hometowns of former and current Presidents of Ghana, as burial places for the country’s leaders.
According to him, such centres, with adjoining facilities, will open the country up for development and boost tourism.
Dr. Sakara said the practice by which all national assets and buildings are located in Accra, “must be stopped, noting that all the Memorial Centers scattered across the country with facilities like Presidential library, hockey pitch and teaching centers would bring total development and growth of the areas where the nation’s leaders hail from.
He noted: “most Presidents in order to appear to be fair, often neglect their hometowns in terms of development and this is the surest way of attracting development to such areas”.
Dr. Sakara made the proposal yesterday when he led the National Executives of the CPP to interact with the management and staff of the New Times Corporation.
He also presented copies of the Party’s manifesto to management of the Corporation.
He identified social transformation, fundamental economic changes and social justice as the three key areas of the party’s 2012 manifesto, stressing that they would be pursued with major investments in the education and railway sectors, besides building a strong artisanal system for students who drop out at the basic level and a proper and effective decentralization.
