Posterity will judge the Rawlingses-Yamoah Ponkoh
13 October 2012
The District Chief Executive of Ejisu-Juabeng, Afrifa Yamoah Ponkoh has expressed his utmost disgust at the Rawlingses for having a meeting with who he describes as “their bitter rival”, Nana Akufo-Addo.
According to him, posterity will judge the former first family for stabbing National Democratic Congress in the back by ‘dinning’ with the same people (NPP) who hounded them throughout their 8-year rule.
Last Thursday, Ghana witnessed an historical meeting between former president Rawlings and his political rival, Nana Akufo-Addo,flagbearer of the opposition NPP.
Although spokesperson for Mr. Rawlings, Kofi Adams says it is unnecessary for people to read meanings into the meeting, some members of the NDC have expressed shock at the turn of events.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s current affairs talkshow, Kukurantumi Saturday, Afrifa Yamoah Ponkoh said he is very much disappointed in former president Rawlings for betraying the NDC which supported him anytime the NPP hounded him and now embracing “his deepest rival or enemy”.
“I am extremely disappointed and shocked the Rawlingses are embracing their deepest rival, Nana Akufo-Addo who wished them doom many years ago. This same NPP and Akufo-Addo connived and withdrew the courtesies Of Rawlings and fought hard to imprison his wife Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings. It is most unfortunate the former first family is hailing the NPP at this critical moment in Ghana’s politics. I am sad and posterity will judge all of us”.
The leading member of the ruling NDC in the Ashanti region questioned the moral authority of Nana Akufo-Addo to visit the former president after he did everything in the past to disgrace him publicly. ”Nana Akufo Addo is not ashamed going to someone he nearly made a destitute in his country sometime ago for advice. Akufo-Addo now sees Rawlings as a mentor? Posterity will judge him because his hatred for the Rawlingses in the past was bad and must bow his head in shame”.
Mr. Afrifa Yamoah Ponkoh asked members of the NDC to see the meeting Rawlings and Akufo-Addo as a source of encouragement to work hard to retain power because the party is now walking alone. “So if the Rawlingses have now embraced the NPP, it is up to them but we the rest of the party members must work hard to retain power. I will work hard for president Mahama and I expect all to do same because the Rawlingses have disappointed us”.
