NDC secret plot undermines national security
10 September 2012
- National Peace Council calls for probe into Boateng Gyan tape
The Chairman of the National Peace Council, Emmanuel Asante, says the secret plot by the National Organiser of the ruling National Democratic Congress, Yaw Boateng Gyan, to infiltrate the security agencies with NDC faithful to do the biddings of the party constitutes a serious threat to national security.
According to Most Rev Prof Asante, the work of the National Peace Council in entreating the citizenry to help ensure a peaceful conduct of the December polls becomes problematic “if somebody is trying to recruit party people to try to infiltrate the security agency,” adding that such a plot “raises a whole lot of questions with respect to credibility and it will also erode the little confidence that people have in the security agencies.”
The Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church, who was speaking on Citi FM, backed calls for the police to investigate the infamous tape recording detailing the ruling party’s sinister agenda for the December polls, spearheaded by its embattled national organiser.
Mr Boateng Gyan was caught on tape promising to help party foot soldiers to infiltrate the country’s security agencies, specifically the Special Forces, to help the party’s agenda in the upcoming elections.
The NDC has stated it will not punish the national organizer for spearheading that evil plot, while President John Dramani Mahama, who has been preaching peace on every available platform, has remained silent on the matter.
Though the ruling party sees nothing wrong with the content of the tape, the Chairman of the National Peace Council insists the content of the tape erodes the confidence of the public in the security agencies.
“As a concerned citizen, I am very much concerned about issues of that nature. I have heard and was shocked when it turned out that he claimed the voice was his because I have heard the voice being played over and over again. It is very, very unfortunate because once it creates all sorts of problems, it raises doubt even in respect of the security agencies,” he lamented.
Most Rev Prof Asante called for swift investigation into the matter, stressing: “the security agencies must really investigate this and they must come up with something that will really tell the public that what is going to happen is not what some party people are saying.”
