Koforidua, Ghana’s newest conference destination
Koforidua’s greenery and natural serenity have always provided a charming warmth that is a welcoming break from Accra’s sweltering, aggressive monotony, and now the likes of Capital View Hotel are capping her lure with the vital missing link as a true haven for business and renewal.
With fascinating rapidity, government and Non-Governmental Organizations, private groups and other commercial interests are flocking to the municipality, thanks to a new wave of multiple star-rated facilities dotting the capital of one of Ghana’s most cosmopolitan of regions and giving hope to the Hospitality Industry and attracting the image as the preferred conference destination.
Corporate activities are on the increase within the Municipality as several organizations especially those in the Banking & Finance industry opening up branches. At a recent Corporate Dinner held by the management of Capital View Hotel for its clientele and attended also by governmental and public institutions, NGOs as well as traditional authorities, the ‘broadsheet’ smiles were mutual – an unspoken concord that both sides looked forward to a long lasting engagement.
In an interview with JOY Business, the General Manager of Capital View Hotel, Nana Antobre said the introduction of the 112-room facility was a purpose built one to meet a variety of needs.
From an existing nine-bedroom Starland Hotel, Capital View Hotel’s proprietor, Mr. Kingsley Dwumor expanded it to build (the now) Capital View Hotel Annex, and then faced with increasing demand, the current 122-bedroom facility spotting banquet halls, 500-seater conference rooms, luxurious bedrooms and spacious parking lots was planned and built to service corporate and other needs.
The proximity of the Koforidua Municipality to Accra, coupled with the breathtaking drive through the Aburi and Larteh mountains provide ready motivations for settling on Koforidua for conferences or rest. And there are those who see the new developments as a promising renaissance of a by-gone era when Koforidua boasted of its quintessential ‘flowers’.
