Vigilante Group Vows To Protect Ballot
Leader of the ‘Eye Vigilante,’ a group in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Oumar Farouk aka ‘Choman,’ has described the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as a pacifist.
Choman, a personal bodyguard of Nana Akufo-Addo, said he had been close to the NPP leader for a long time, stating that the presidential candidate frowns on acts that could destabilize the country.
He made the remarks after members of the Ashanti regional branch of the ‘Eye Vigilante’ marched through the principal streets of Kumasi last Sunday during a float.
Formed in 2009, the ‘Eye Vigilante’ group is made up of energetic male and female NPP members across the country whose primary target is to protect the NPP members against any attacks by lawless people.
Choman said Nana Akufo-Addo loves Ghana and would be the first person to speak against acts that could create chaos in the country.
He entreated the entire populace to rally behind the NPP presidential candidate in the forthcoming general elections, stressing that the experienced Nana Akufo-Addo would easily solve Ghana’s problems.
Choman said the group would complement the work of the security agents on the Election Day, stating that his group would watch the ballot boxes with an eagle eye to prevent unscrupulous people from snatching them.
The Eye Vigilante group, which has about 600 members including males and females, is being sponsored by M.D. Moro, dealer in pharmaceutical drugs.
The Eye Vigilante group members were dressed in red, white and blue colours of the NPP during the float, which took place in the Garden City.
Addressing the Eye Vigilante members at CPC where they had converged after the float, Mary Duodu, former NPP Subin Constituency Women’s Organizer, said Nana Akufo-Addo would solve the unemployment problem in the country and charged the electorate to give their mandate to the NPP candidate.
Boamah Francis, leading NPP member in Kumasi, on his part, charged the Eye Vigilante group to play a leading role to maintain peace after the December polls.
Saliu Musah, Chairman, Ashanti Regional Eye Vigilante, said his group would also campaign vigorously to ensure that Nana Addo records a first round victory in December.
M.D. Moro, financier of the group stated that the group was not formed to ensure peaceful elections in the country, stressing that without peace the country would stagnate.
