Prayers Not Solution – Otabil
Pastor Mensa Otabil, General Overseer of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), has deflated claims that prayers are the way out of Ghana’s ever dwindling economic fortunes.
Pastor Otabil stated that instead of praying for the economy to improve, the country must have a focused vision with a clear-cut plan towards shoring up the economy.
The motivational speaker told his congregants during a sermon yesterday on “The Power of Vision” that “it is time to stop having all night prayer meetings for the change of the economy.” He said, “It is time to plan to work hard and be focused,” adding that “every nation that has moved from third world to developed world has a clear plan”.
Visionary Leader
Dr. Otabil, who is also the President of the Living Word School of Ministry, further averred that “they (countries with vision) didn’t hope that things would happen. They didn’t have all night prayer meetings for the economy; they planned for the change of the economy.”
As the ICGC General Overseer was preaching, President John Mahama was receiving prayers yet again at the Grace Pentecostal Assemblies of God Church at Effiakuma near Takoradi, to end his three-day working visit to the Western Region.
Pastor Otabil has been consistently preaching about visionary leadership, instead of a bunch of jokers holding sway at the helm of affairs.
“We’re polluting ourselves. We have issues we can’t solve. We have problems we can’t solve. We are overwhelmed all around us, yet we have a lot of time to joke and to laugh and to act as if this is the most normal environment to live in”, he said recently at the 2014 Spring Board Road Show Convocation.
The ICGC Founder’s solution to the ailing economy runs counter to the one proffered by Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams, founder of the Christian Action Faith Ministries (CAFM), who recently led a spirit-filled congregation to offer prayers against further depreciation of the Ghanaian Cedi.
Archbishop Duncan-Williams said, “I hold up the Cedi with prayer and I command the Cedi to recover; and I declare the Cedi will not fall; it will not fall any further. I command the Cedi to climb. I command the resurrection of the Cedi. I command and release a miracle for the economy. ”
However, weeks after the Archbishop’s declaration, the Cedi is still falling freely, currently trading officially at GH¢2.53 while at the Forex Bureaux, it is trading at GH¢2.70 as at Friday, and higher on the black market.
The Dwarfs Theory
It may be recalled that Anita De Sooso, the National Women’s Organiser of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), recently jumped into the fray to diagnose a curious cause for Ghana’s free-falling local currency, saying the Cedi’s depreciation was caused by ‘voodoo’ or juju and dwarfs.
Ms. De Sooso, now a Deputy National Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), claimed witch doctors who used dwarfs were stealing Ghana’s currency from the banks and other financial institutions, and this inadvertently affected its stability.
She was on record as having told Accra-based Adom FM, “Do we know where they get the money from? Do we know what they do with it? These dwarfs…the black magic, is what has made the Cedi lose value.”
