President John Mahama has said his decision for the late President John Evans Atta Mills to be buried at a specially designated place in between Castle Drive and Marine Drive Osu, Accra, should end the wrangling and debate over his final resting site.

Government had initially hinted that the mortal remains of President Mills who died on Tuesday, July 24, 2012, will be laid to rest at the Flagstaff House.

The decision received condemnation from some members of the public particularly the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).

A statement issued Thursday and signed by the Chairman of the Funeral Planning Committee Kofi Totobi Quakyi said the late Ghanaian leader will be buried at the Castle Drive area which will subsequently be developed into a Presidential Mausoleum.

Speaking to a delegation from the Assemblies of God church at The Castle Friday, John Mahama said, his decision for President Mills to be buried at Geese Park should put to rest the petty politics, since he deserves respect.

He also asked for cooperation from the general public during the funeral and burial of the former President which starts from August 8 to 10.

The Assemblies of God church delegation was lead by its Superintendent, Rev Dr Paul Frimpong Danso.

Meanwhile government has declared Friday, August 10 as a public holiday in honour of Mills' burial.
