NDP is a major threat to NDC’s victory - Gen Sec
The National Democratic Party is a major threat to the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) electoral fortunes in December, according to General Secretary Dr. Joseph Manboa-Rockson.
He said unlike the ruling party, NDP will deliver an incorruptible, people centered leadership based on the principles of probity, accountability and social justice.
The breakaway party from the NDC will on Friday receive certification from the Electoral Commission (EC) to be a fully-fledged political party ahead of the December polls.
The National Executive Committee of the NDP is contemplating naming former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings as its flag-bearer for the 2012 elections.Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Thursday, Dr. Manboa-Rockson said that the Rawlingses are a key part of the NDP, even though they are not card bearing members.
He indicated that former President Jerry Rawlings will join the party’s campaign to wrestle power from the NDC which he claims has veered off from its core principles on which it was formed.
Dr. Manboa-Rockson added that the leadership of the NDC has shown gross disrespect to the party founder and thus should not expect Mr. Rawlings on its campaign trail.
He noted that the main aim for the formation of the NDP is to provide an alternative to the disenchanted members of the NDC, NPP and other political parties who have the interest of the country at heart.
The NDP scribe said that the party is feverishly organizing its self at the grassroots to give the ruling party a run for their money.
Dr. Manboa-Rockson stated emphatically that their presence in the political terrain will be a serious blow to the NDC chances of retaining power in the December elections.
Meanwhile, NDC Member of Parliament for Tain, Ahmed Ibrahim is calling for a seize fire from both parties.
He said an NDC campaign without Jerry Rawlings could spell doom for the ruling party which he says faces a vicious opposition like the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the general elections.
Ahmed Ibrahim urged the leadership of the NDC to expedite action and make peace with its founder to ensure unity.
