Madam Frances Essiam says President John Dramani Mahama’s attempt to defend the Bureau of National Investigations [BNI] for inviting Citi FM’s Chief Executive Officer and Editor of the Daily Graphic over their organisations report on the busted cocaine lady is ill-fated.

The devoted member of the opposition New Patriotic Party [NPP] sees no reason why the president will justify such situation when the BNI are capable to do so after detaining the duo.

“He [President Mahama] has maddened waters by making himself an unofficial spokesperson for the BNI in this case. There is something they have to explain to Ghanaians,” she said.

The BNI invited Samuel Attah Mensah, popularly known as Sammens of Citi FM and the Editor of the Daily Graphic, Ransford Tetteh on Monday over their respective reportage on the busted Ghanaian cocaine lady with a diplomatic passport.

In defence after many have bombarded the BNI, President Mahama stated at an event in Accra to mark 20 years of media plurality in Ghana that “Once it has been reported that this woman who is not a diplomat is in possession of a diplomatic passport, the Bureau of National Investigations had to perform its duties”.

“As irony will have it, the primary function of that institution is the pursuit of information for the security and safeguard of our nation and its citizens. In the investigations, the BNI narrowed down the stories to the original source of dissemination in Ghana to the Radio station and the Newspaper”.

He added that, “Both editors were asked (not ordered), to come to the BNI and assist with investigations. They were not arrested or detained and they both have publicly said so. The efforts of the BNI has in “truth” helped to unravel the mystery surrounding the story”.

But speaking on OKAY FM’s Ade Akye Abia programme, Madam Frances Essiam questioned the importance of Mahama’s presidency since he now want to intrude in BNI matters.

“President Mahama is exposing us to many things. What is the sense in the president’s assertion? It is very clear the lady Nayele Ametefe [drug dealer] went through VVIP. If the VVIP is for accredited government officials at the airport as they say, then it is obvious the lady has a link in government.

“..the president should spare us with all his explanations and his new appointment as the spokesperson for the BNI. What a country we live in,” she lamented
