Okyehene Furious..Tells Prez Mahama Deplorable Roads Must Be His Topmost Concern
The Okyehene, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panyin has broken his silence on the galamsey comment made by President John Dramani Mahama when the president visited the area.
The furious Okyehene said the president should have also tagged the Eastern region “as headquarters of bad roads and repair them rather than describing Kyebi as galamsey headquarters,” because, according to him, the nature of deplorable roads in the region must be a topmost concern to the government.
He noted that the poor road network in the region is gradually collapsing businesses, affecting farmers and aggravating the economic headships on the people.
He said a focus on repairing deplorable roads in the region will end the difficulties farmers and commuters go through and even create employment for the youth which will go a long way to reduce youth engagement in illegal mining activities.
President Mahama in his two day working tour of the Eastern region, described Kyebi as the headquarters of galamsey during his encounter at a durbar of subs-chiefs at Kyebi. The comment received counter attacks from some chiefs and youth groups at Kyebi.
Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panyin broke his silence on the matter when addressing his sub-chiefs within the Okyeman Traditional Council, during the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional State Council’s 1st meeting of the 15th Season at Ofori Panyin Fie at Kyebi over the weekend.
The Okyehene warned his sub-chiefs to desist from what he called unnecessary chieftaincy litigation's and lackadaisical attitudes toward protecting Okyeman lands and illegal sale of lands.
He, therefore, directed that the Okyeman Lands Commission to be reconstituted to deal with land matters in the Akyem Abuakwa state. The Akyem Abuakwa King noted that Okyeman lands are always being taken over by traditional areas sharing boundaries with Okyeman.
