Mills’ second term will take Ghana to the promised land – Ofosu-Ampofo
Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo is appealing to Ghanaians to show President Mills fairness by allowing him to enjoy a second term as they gave some past presidents.
Mr. Ofosu Ampofo told Joy News’ Seth Kwame Boateng Ghanaians should not disregard the eight-year-rule tradition.
The Local Government Minister is again proposing a five-year term for the president, arguing that four years is woefully inadequate.
“Once that amendment has not taken place, I think that the fairest thing we can give is that we must allow tradition to continue… And the tradition is that from 1992 Ghanaians have given every government that has been voted into power the maximum eight years to do all that the government thinks that it can do.
“Most of the achievements that President Kufuor made were in the last four years of his tenure.”
Mr. Ofosu Ampofo is optimistic, considering the economic gains of the government, giving another four years to President Mills “obviously it will send Ghana to the promised land”.
He reiterated that the Mills’ led government has achieved a lot within their short stay, adding that Ghanaians will witness more unprecedented transformation in the coming years.
“I will be the saddest person if we are not given another four years to continue from where we have ended now. The change has come, but the real change is coming in the next four years.”
