The Madina Constituency chairperson of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Rejoice Ahiable, has accused Acting General Secretary and some Regional Executives of the party of disregarding a court injunction to go ahead with elections.

According to Madam Ahiable, a court injunction placed on the elections makes it contemptuous for anyone to go ahead with it.

“We are having issues and the case is in court. I was surprised when I was told that Regional Executives have called elections today", she told JOY NEWS.

The Constituency Chairperson has discredited the elections which she claims are being conducted without her authorisation.

She suspected the MP of masterminding the development which she said is unconstitutional.

Rejoice Ahiable said as the chairperson, she has the sole constitutional prerogative to call the elections.

“Constitutionally, it is only the constituency chairman who calls for elections. If she is not around then the General Secretary gives directives. Right now some people have just come and they are doing it,” she stated.

"They all know the constitution and we are all abiding by the constitution. Regional Executives do not hold conference for us. Not even the MP," she added.

Mrs Ahiable insisted that “because some people want to do bad things and I am against it that is why they are doing this…Nobody is going to do any conference until the court has given us the go ahead”.

But in a counter accusation, acting General Secretary, Mawuli Dzakpasu has blamed the chairperson of deliberately delaying the elections because of a personal agenda.

He also denied there is a court injunction on the elections.

He told JOY NEWS, he received instructions from the regional executives to hold the elections.

He accused the chairperson of failing to resolve some internal disputes by hiding letters from aggrieved persons.

Ade CookerAs the impasse continued, the aggrieved parties were forced go to court, he maintained.

However, Greater Accra Regional Secretary Ade Coker has dismissed the woman's protestations insisting that the elections will go on.

He noted that elections in the region have largely been peaceful and incident free.
