Baba Yara Blackout C’ttee Formed
A FIVE-MEMBER Committee headed by the Ashanti Regional BNI Boss, Mr. Alex Daary, has been formed to investigate circumstances leading to the blackout that occurred during the Ghana/Lesotho game at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi last Friday.
Other members of the committee are Mr. P.A. Mensah, Ashanti Regional Fire Service Commander, Mr. E.K. Anto, Electrician from the KNUST, Opoku Anto, Public Works Department and Douglass Anorful, from the Regional Coordinating Council.
Speaking at the inauguration of the committee, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Kwaku Agyeman Mensah said the committee should finish their investigations within one week and send their report to him.
He explained that the committee’s work is mainly to find out what went wrong to prevent the floodlights from illumining during the contest which was a World CUP qualifier, adding that they are to find out any other matter resulting in the blackout.
Dr. Mensah noted that the committee is also to make recommendations to forestall the future occurrence of power failure at the stadium during games, reiterating that he is expecting feedback from them within one week.
Chairman of the Committee, Mr. Alex Daary, on behalf of the committee members, promised to do a thorough job within the stipulated period to justify the trust reposed in them.
He however stated that the committee would not hesitate to extend the one week period allocated to them should they see the need to do so, urging those that would be invited before the committee to co-operate with them.
