Two Teachers Defile Pupils
The Agona Swedru Circuit Court has upheld an objection raised by the prosecution to refuse bail to a 66-year-old teacher, Kingsford Carson, who is standing trial for defiling a seven-year-old pupil at Buduburam.
Police Inspector Opoku Mensah’s objection to Carson’s request for bail was based on the fact that the charge of defilement preferred against him was an unbailable offence.
The presiding judge, Mr. N.K.E. Osam, therefore, had no option than to remand Carson in prison custody for the second time until June 6, 2012. Carson has been on remand since, June last year.
Carson, who reportedly had carnal knowledge of the young pupil, pleaded not guilty to the charge of defilement of a female child who was below 16 years.
According to Inspector Opoku Mensah, the victim lives with her mother at Buduburam where she attends school. Carson was her class teacher.
Inspector Mensah said at about 1:00pm on June22, 2011, Carson lured the victim into the store room of the school and slept with her.
According to Inspector Opoku Mensah, the victim went home after school hours and informed her mother who rushed to the police station and made a report which led to the arrest of Carson.
In another development, Mr. Osam remanded into prison custody another teacher, Benjamin Kusi, 23, for allegedly defiling a seven-year-old pupil at Gomoa Kasoa.
Kusi, who pleaded not guilty to the charge of defilement, prompted the court, presided over by Mr. N.K.E. Osam, to remand him until June 6, 2012.
