The first lady, Mrs Lordina Mahama is in the Ashanti region on a two days tour of Kumasi to canvass for support for President John Mahama.

She is accompanied by Madam Sherry Ayitey, Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Hajia Zeinab Mahama, Deputy National women's organiser of the NDC, Madam Cecilia Johnson, Member of the Council of state, Mrs Betty Mould Iddrisu, former Minister of Education, Dr Stephen Opuni, Chief Executive of the Food and Drugs Board and His Excellency Daniel Ohene Agyekum, Ambassador to the United States of America.

She was met on arrival by the Ashanti regional Minister, Dr Kwaku Agyemang Mensah and regional party executives. An enthusiastic crowd gathered at the Kumasi airport to welcome her amidst singing and dancing.

The First Lady later called on the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu I at the Manhyia Palace to seek his blessing before starting her campaign in Kumasi. She said that President Mahama needs the support of Asanteman to enable him win the elections. Otumfuo on his part reiterated the call for peace before, during and after the December elections.

The First Lady and her entourage will campaign in the region for two days before retuing to Accra. Whilst in Kumasi, she will be meeting with idenfiable groups and opinion leaders.
