NPP's irresponsible allegations must stop– Prez Mahama insists

President John Dramani Mahama has charged political leaders to call to order, their members who have taken delight in organizing “irresponsible” press conferences full of “unsubstantiated [corruption] allegations” against him.
As he promised to rein in persons within his party who may trek that path, President Mahama promised to personally abstain from raising unproven accusations.
“When serious political leaders and political parties hold press conferences and make unsubstantiated allegations that don’t hold any water, I think that’s a very irresponsible behavior and I’ll never do it. I will never accuse anybody on an unsubstantiated basis, and I hope that other political leaders will also do the same, and that they will call their followers to order when they make these unsubstantiated allegations.”
Speaking at the NDC manifesto launch for the 2012 elections in the Volta Regional capital Ho, Thursday, President Mahama maintained that fighting corruption is going to be high on the agenda of government if it retains power.
He said the NDC government when re-elected will push through the Freedom of Information bill and make sure it is passed by Parliament, as well as strengthen anti-corruption institutions.
He has therefore challenged persons who are fond of peddling, often, unsubstantiated allegations against him to proceed to court or any other anti-corruption institution and he will be there to defend himself.
“I am prepared as the President of this country to appear before anybody, any institution to be investigated for corruption,” he pledged.
The President further stated: “So I throw a challenge to those parties and those leaders of political parties who are making those unsubstantiated allegations that if they truly believe that I have been involved in any corruption, they should go to the appropriate institutions, make a report. I will appear there and defend myself.”
The manifesto launch was attended by former President Jerry John Rawlings, Vice-President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur, Ministers, Members of Parliament and party executives among other party functionaries.
