More Details

Romeo Osei Tutu was grabbed on Thursday afternoon after he attempted administering medication to a patient on admission at a ward at the Accident and Emergency department of the hospital.

Osei Tutu has been parading as a medical doctor at the facility for the past three years.

He was arrested after he failed to answer questions posed to him by a female doctor at the children’s ward.

It all started when the 23-year-old former student of the Osei Tutu Senior High School (SHS), dressed as a doctor with his stethoscope, entered the ward and approached a sick young boy on his bed, ostensibly to give him medical attention.

Because the young boy had been attended to by a female doctor since his admission, his mother became suspicious and therefore asked the suspect why he was attending to her son this time around.

The fake doctor, popularly known at the facility as ‘Junior’, noted that he had been asked to stand in for the female doctor since she did not come to work that day.

As the fake doctor was going through the young boy’s folder, the female doctor appeared at the scene.

Baffled, the female doctor, whose name was not given by the authorities, confronted Osei Tutu, asking him basic questions about the medical profession and he was found fumbling in his response.

The doctor therefore alerted the security personnel, who quickly came in and arrested Osei Tutu.

During interrogation, Osei Tutu admitted that he had been parading as a doctor at the hospital for the past three years and that he did that because he was deeply interested in the job.

The resident of Bantama said he used to work as a health insurance agent who went round registering people with the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

He disclosed that he had been moving from one ward to the other posing as a medical doctor assigned to treat patients on their sick beds.

Workers at the pharmacy department of the centre who claimed to know Osei Tutu noted that he often came to buy drugs for patients he had treated.

Checks conducted by DAILY GUIDE revealed that Osei Tutu allegedly extorted money from relatives of patients by telling them that the drugs they needed had not been prescribed for them because of the collapse of the NHIS and that if they had money he could buy the drugs for them.

After taking huge sums of money from them, he would then go to the pharmacy department and buy the drugs prescribed for the patients and thereafter keep the balance.

Information reaching DAILY GUIDE indicates that the suspect has been handed over to the police.
