Kenwuud NuworsuNDC Building University On Paper - Kenwuud Nuworsu

The Volta Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Kenwuud Nuworsu, has described the facilities for the take-off of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) as not even fit for a day nursery.

He said it was one thing building a university on paper and another putting the infrastructure on the ground.

“Unless you put the infrastructure in place, you have not done anything; you only have the intention”, he explained.

He said the “National Accreditation Board will not give accreditation to a private person to use those incubatory facilities for a junior high school because private JHSs in Ho have better facilities. It is not even fit for a day nursery”.

Mr Nuworsu disclosed this in an interview with the Daily Graphic at his residence in Ho.

“Yet, these so called communications guys of the government will come on air and claim they have given the region a brand new university”, he wondered.

He said that was the way the NDC had claimed they had constructed polytechnics but it was former President Kufuor who came to resource the polytechnics to become what they are today.

Mr Nuworsu stressed that if the establishment of a university was only about stating it on paper, the NPP government could have declared universities in every corner of the country.

He called on the chiefs of the region to stand up and not be taken for granted, saying “they were taken to the bush to cut sod for a university but what has happened so far”?

In the view of Mr Nuworsu, if that project had gone on as expected, the whole area would have been a haven of economic activities for both skilled and unskilled labour.

“When there are jobs and everyone can do something that can bring money into their pockets to pay bills, buy food, pay fees and able to access other necessities of life, then we can say the people are better off, but not what they are doing now”, he regretted.
