Agyapong’s war declaration was only metaphorical- Atta Akyea

Atta Akyea told Joy News’ Evans Mensah his client was only "metaphorical" with his words and has no bad intentions.

Agyapong was reported to have declared war if the alleged attacks on New Patriotic Party supporters did not stop.

He was angered by what he claims to be police inaction against people he said were fomenting trouble at the various registration centres.

He was invited early Monday by the police CID on possible charges of treason.

But Atta Akyea is convinced the comments by his client cannot by any stretch of the imagination be deemed to be treasonable.

Quoting copiously from the Constitution, Akyea, who is also the MP for Abuakwa South said “no amount of words will amount to treason” unless there is evidence he had concrete plans to execute his words.

He said Agyapong’s comments were just “verbal expressions” and no violent connotations must be put to them.

He said the comments were rather to admonish the police to be careful and deal with the violence characterizing the biometric registration process.

Describing what transpired at the Police HQ, the Abuakwa South MP said his client was asked to produce the recording of the comments he made on his own radio station, Oman FM, on Friday.

He said Agyapong willingly volunteered and gave the recording to the police.

Atta Akyea said his client was “cautioned and admitted to bail” but yet to be released.

KT Hammond another New Patriotic Party MP for Asokwa who stepped up to bail his colleague had his house inspected by police personnel as part of the bail bond.

Akyea said he is at a loss why his client will still be held by the police. Meanwhile, scores of NPP supporters have massed up at the Police HQ where Kennedy Agyapong has been held.
