The roundtable discussion held with the Winner Takes All Advisory Committee of IEA formed part of on-going broad consultations of the board, which is chaired by Bishop Palmer Buckle.

Emile Short, Vice Chairman of the Committee, briefing the NPP delegation on the activities of the board so far, said 200 stakeholders from the three Northern Regions and other regions have had the opportunity to share their views on the winner takes all system.

Mr. Short noted that the stakeholders were of the view that the tension that mounts during elections was as a result of the Winner Takes All system and therefore suggested that appointments by the president should be done on merit.

National Chairman of the NPP, Paul Afoko, said further explained that when people feel excluded in governance process, especially in a democratic dispensation where the views of people must be taken into account, they resort to other means such a strike actions.

They argued that legislations alone cannot solve the issues caused by the WTA system if the leaders that control the affairs of the state do not have the political will to enforce the rules and regulations.

However the participants at the consultative meeting agreed that the winner takes all system being operated in the country was a liability.

The NPP delegation included General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong, First Vice Chairman, Freddie Blay and Edward Tetteh, Administrator.
