President Mahama, NDC Must Prove Innocence -UFP Chairman

The President, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama and the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have been challenged to prove their innocence by ensuring a speedy adjudication of the petition brought before the Supreme Court by some leading members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) challenging the legitimacy of the President.

The National Chairman of the United Front Party (UFP) Nana Agyenim Boateng, who threw the challenge in an interview with The Chronicle said he was surprised by the unnecessary feet dragging and delay tactics being adopted by counsel for the President and the NDC just to slow down the legal process.

“I don’t understand why President Mahama and the NDC are playing hanky panky with the case; if they really believe in their innocence, they should allow the case to proceed without any interruption, but under the current circumstance one can only assume that they have something to hide, hence the delay tactics,” he emphasized.

He was of the view that if the President and the NDC truly believe that they won the election on a clean note without any manipulation, they should have rather helped fast-tracked the legal proceedings and not engage in legal gymnastics just to stall adjudication.

Nana Agyenim Boateng, popularly known as ‘Gyataba’, noted that it is obvious the NDC and President Mahama have something to hide hence the refusal to allow the case to progress as expected.

He cited the attempt by the NDC to support over 327 applicants to join the case, the demand for better particulars, the purported 4,000 witnesses, amongst other tactics, as clear defeatist approach on part of the ruling party.

The UFP chairman observed that it will be in the interest of the President, the NDC and the country at large to see speedy adjudication of the matter by the Supreme Court and ensure the elimination of the high level of apprehension in the country.

He further observed that the international community and other foreign partners are reluctant to lend their support to the country because of the credibility crisis, stressing that such challenges can only be overcome after the Supreme Court has pronounced its final verdict.
