Following the successful recruitment and training in 1983 of some 180 young men in Cuba, who were to form the nucleus of the 64 Regiment, outside of the traditional armed forces settings and the word commando, popularized in the Ghanaian defence and national security architecture in 1984, many are those \u2013 most significantly, the Ghana Armed Forces, who even recruited them, had had the cause for their admirations and arguably, misgivings about the group. The origins and mission of the commando unit, continue to be shrouded in secrecy, thereby, evoking vacuum of speculations and various hypotheses.<\/p>\n
